Ramble 2
From Carn Bosavern to Nanquidno, Nanjulian and back along the Cot Valley
I haven't learnt how to do the maps yet but this was a simply glorious walk... initially across fields then down a valley to the sea and back along the coast path.

I haven't learnt how to do the maps yet but this was a simply glorious walk... initially across fields then down a valley to the sea and back along the coast path.
There are several routes to get to this point and generally I'm guided by gut feeling and avoiding fields with cattle! I do cross them sometimes but prefer not to if I can.
This walk has some parts on tarmac, but not for long, soon you're back across fields. The path crossed more fields and after losing it at one point I rejoined it on the wet track below which goes down into the Nanquidno valley.
The sea was just visible in the distance. |
This is another tin mining valley and the stream was of vital importance.
These waves don't look big in the pictures but they were about 14' and making rainbows with their spray :-)
I walked along the edge for some way but eventually had to return to Nanjulian to join the proper path. You can see why when the path becomes steep and the cliffs more sheer.
After topping an ancient settlement, the next little dip held 6 choughs feeding :-) |
The path from Nanjulian runs along the cliff with stunning views toward The Brisons and Cape.
Once back at the mouth of the Cot valley a sheltered walk back up the valley by the stream takes you past the wonderful garden full of camellias and back up to St Just and home :-) |
Ramble 1
To Kenidjack Castle headland across Porthledden 'beach'
I will learn how to include a map for you but I haven't acquired that skill yet so my description and pictures will have to do. Basically, it is a walk through St Just down to Cape Cornwall, across the fields and over interesting stiles. Then down to Porthledden and across the scoured shore to the headland at the other side. This is rich in Tin mining relics . The photos really say it all.

Walking across this shore at low tide is amazing. Part of it is smoothed with huge stones, either granite or other deposited at random. There are rock pools galore (little people heaven!)
